An archive of my life

Project "Fleur-de-lys"

Back in 2007, while still living in Austria, I purchased my first road bike, composing of a no-name aluminum frame and a Shimano 105 groupset

Between 2007 and 2010, that bike lived ‘glorious’ days with me finishing 992nd in St. Pölten IRONMAN 70.3 (2008), and MrsK finishing 9842nd in Vätternrundan (2010).

However, in 2011 team KEDQ purchased carbon (Guerciotti) frames, and the old bike was left neglected (and without components) in our storage room.

On space shuttle accidents

Today I gave a presentation at Volvo Aero on the causes of the Challenger, Apollo 13, and Columbia space shuttle accidents.

Below is a part of the photos and references I used for my presentation material.

Blow up: Who can be blamed for a disaster like the Challenger explosion? - By M. Gladwell.

PowerPoint does Rocket Science - By E. Tufte.

Visual Explanations - By E. Tufte.

Credit to MrBengt for pointing out the works of E. Tufte!

The ethnic theory of plane crashes

Airkorea

Today I gave a short presentation at my department @ Volvo Aero on the relationship between pilots' ethnicity, attitude towards authority, and performance inside the cockpit. The topic was inspired by the most interesting book 'Outliers' by Malcolm Gladwell, that I read a couple of weeks ago.

It is my impression that the audience truly enjoyed the talk, and found the subject very interesting. Big applaud at the end :D

I just ordered Gladwell's second book: Blink: The power of thinking without thinking. Will a presentation come out of that too?
